Got dry lips? Exfoliate them with this simple Homemade Lip Scrub made with natural ingredients like brown sugar and honey. Save time and money with this tutorial.
I don’t know about you, but my skin can be so sensitive. In the spring and summer, I’m out in the sun a lot and my lips get dry. In the fall and winter, the air gets cooler and sure enough my lips get dry. It’s like no matter what time of year… my lips get dry. Can you relate? That’s why I use this DIY Lip Scrub.
An Easy Lip Scrub
It helps to naturally exfoliate, moisturize and soothe my lips. And best of all, it’s so easy to make… and made with simple ingredients you probably have in your pantry. Because this DIY Lip Scrub is made with real food ingredients, kids and teens can use this recipe too. There are no additives or preservatives.
How to Make This Homemade Lip Scrub

Melt coconut oil over low heat on the stove or in a double boiler, if it’s in a solid form. This usually takes 2-3 minutes.
-
Pour coconut oil into a small bowl. Add all remaining ingredients together and mix well.
-
Store in a small glass jar for about a week
How to Use This Homemade Lip Scrub
- Apply about 1-2 tsp of the scrub to the lips.
- Let the scrub sit on the lips for about 1 minute, then gently wash off with warm.
- Exfoliate lips 2-3 times a week.
Ingredients in This Homemade Lip Scrub
- Brown sugar is a natural exfoliator. It will help to remove dead skin cells and promote new cell turnover.
- Raw honey helps to restore moisture and supports skin health.
- Coconut oil helps to provide moisture and acts like a lubricant to make the brown sugar exfoliate easier on the lips.
- Lavender essential oil helps to moisturize and soothe sensitive skin. Just be sure you’re using an essential oil that’s high quality as this will be going on your lips. (Find out how to get my favorite set of essential oils for 60% off.)
Top Tips for This Homemade Lip Scrub
- For the most part, using a lip scrub once a week is perfect for maintaining a smooth, flake-free smile. But you can certainly add it into your daily beauty routine.
- If you have trouble removing your liquid lipsticks (or any lip products in general), you can also use this DIY Sugar Lip Scrub to scrub it away!
- Before using, allow the scrub to stand at room temperature for a good 10 minutes so that the formula softens a bit.
- You can use a soft toothbrush. If you have particularly sensitive skin, a children’s toothbrush will work well. Keep this one specifically for this purpose, not to be mixed up with your usual.

Is there something else you could besides coconut oil.
Yes, you can use almond oil or avocado oil. The beeswax is what firms it up for a lip balm.
Hello, I am just wondering how long will this last?
2-3 weeks
if i waant the scrub to last longer is it possible adding some preservative ?
I haven’t tried it with a preservative because I’m trying to avoid them as much as possible. You could make a smaller batch and keep in the fridge for a week or two.
