It’s no secret that candy is loaded with junk that not only contributes to tooth decay and weight gain, but it can affect behavior too. Yet, it can be so tough explaining this to our kids (or resisting the temptation ourselves.)
That’s why I love these homemade pineapple gummy bears – simple, sweet and super cute. They look identical to store-bought so your kids won’t know the difference. If you want to give the game away, the recipe is so easy that your little ones could even help in the kitchen.
These healthy homemade gummies will curb any sugar cravings with natural sweetness instead of processed sugars. They are ideal for lunchboxes, parties, as a gift or enjoy a handful guilt-free when you crave a sweet treat or a little nostalgia.
About The Ingredients
The best thing about these homemade pineapple gummy bears is that you only need two ingredients. Who said homemade candy had to be complicated?
Unflavored gelatin
You’ve probably heard of gelatin, but this recipe does not call for a box of off the shelf gelatin like Jello-O as it’s full of artificial colors, and preservatives. Instead, to ensure the maximum benefits, use real gelatin from grass-fed cows.
All gelatin is derived from the skin, connective tissue and/or bones of animals. What makes grass-fed gelatin different is the quality of the gelatin. It’s from grass-fed cows rather than factory-farmed animals. It is almost entirely made up of protein which gives it many potential health benefits. High-quality gelatin offers similar benefits to collagen and has been found to benefit bone health, skin and hair as well as the immune system.
Pineapple
You can use fresh or canned pineapple for this recipe. According to recent research, canned pineapple has 40 % less vitamin C than fresh, raw pineapple. It is also believed canning pineapple destroys the anti-inflammatory enzyme, bromelain – which is one of the fruit’s best benefits.
However, canned pineapple is believed to contain slightly more calcium, magnesium and potassium than fresh. Canned will also save you so much time versus peeling and prepping fresh. Regardless of the kind you choose, pineapple is loaded with nutrients, antioxidants and several B vitamins, including thiamin, niacin, B6 and folate. It is also known to support the immune system as well as suppress inflammation.
How to Make Pineapple Gummy Bears Step by Step
- Add the blended pineapple and the unflavored gelatin to a saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a boil then remove from the heat.
- Allow the mixture to cool for around 5 minutes before filling the gummy bear molds using a dropper.
- Place the molds on a baking sheet (this makes transporting to the fridge easier) then let the filled molds set for 20 minutes to solidify in the refrigerator.
- Repeat until all the mixture has been used. This pineapple gummy bears recipe should make around 225 delicious gummies.
How To Store Homemade Pineapple Gummy Bears
These gummies will last in a food-safe glass container in the fridge for up to 5 days. Well, that’s if you don’t devour them all first. It is possible to also freeze them for a refreshing Summer treat as they’ll melt quite quickly in your mouth or pack a few frozen gummies in a lunch box so they’re cold by the time the kids get to school.
Can You Change The Flavor?
Just like my homemade healthy fruit snacks this recipe can be easily tweaked to your taste buds. Other fruit flavors to try include:
- grapefruit juice
- guava juice
- apple juice
- orange
- mango
How to Avoid Homemade Pineapple Gummy Bears Going Sticky?
Don’t worry if you’ve followed the recipe and your homemade gummies still turn out a little sticky. There is a simple solution – cornstarch. Spready the pineapple gummy bears on a baking sheet or paper towel and sparingly sprinkle on cornstach. The gummy bears will absorb the cornstarch for a smoother, less sticky texture. Careful not to add too much or this can affect the vibrant yellow of your gummies, too much cornstarch will make them look cloudy.
Can This Be Vegan?
Yes, you can easily make this recipe vegan. Use powdered agar agar as a 1:1 replacement for the powdered gelatin in this recipe, which calls for 4 oz of gelatin. So just use 4 oz of powered agar agar.

These pineapple gummies were awesome! I added some citric acid to half for some sour ones too. Thanks for sharing.
