Feeling sad, overwhelmed, fearful, doubtful, or just plain moody?
Find out how essential oils can help you to manage your moods and emotions. I’ve got a lot of great tips you can use to overcome and release emotional patterns with natural solutions.
But, first, let’s back up a bit…. Did you know that scents are tied to your emotions and memories?
It’s true. When you smell an aroma, that scent goes into the limbic system of your brain. This part of the brain is linked to your emotions and memories.
Think about how you feel when you smell freshly baked chocolate chip cookies? Does it remind you of a memory when you baked with your mother or grandmother as a child?
For me, when I smell Chinese dumplings I’m transported to when my mother used to make homemade Chinese dishes in our kitchen as a child. She would make lovingly her dumplings by hand, and we would gobble them up faster than she could make them.
Just one scent can transport us to a comforting time when we enjoyed a meal with our favorite people. Isn’t it amazing how scents and aromas are tied to our emotions and memories?
That’s how essential oils work to help us to support our emotions. Learn more about essential oils and where to buy here.
I like to use the book Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils by Dr. Carolyn Mein to figure out what oils to use to support my emotions. Dr. Mein is a chiropractor, acupuncturist and bio-nutrition expert. She used her background Chinese medicine to write the book and show how to apply oils to specific points of the body to help release emotional patterns. She even has tips on how to help kids to release emotional patterns too. Believe me, it’s been really helpful when my preschooler was having tantrums.
Here are a few examples:
- If you’re feeling overwhelmed, use Envision and apply to the vision alarm point.
- If you’re feeling drained, use Ylang Ylang and apply to the heart strings alarm point.
- If you’re feeing resistance to something, use Surrender and apply to the Amygdala alarm point.
So how do you put this all into practice? I recorded a video tutorial on how to use Dr. Mein’s book to address emotional patterns. And if you’re looking for tips on how to choose the right oils for your body, check out How to Make Your Own Essential Oil Blend. I’ve got a great video tutorial that shows you how to use muscle testing to pick the right oils.
