It’s apple season here in San Diego. We have bountiful orchards just about an hour away in the rustic town of Julian. My kids love picking red and green apples straight from the tree and eating them.

With so many apples in our pantry, we find ways to use them in everything – from applesauce (which we then can and preserve) to bread and pastries.

This Gluten Free Apple Bread is a modification of my Gluten Free Banana Bread. I love to bake these in mini loaf pans because the center stays moist while the outer edges are firm. There’s an option to go egg free too – which we typically do since my husband is allergic to eggs – and sugar free.

You’ll want to make at least 2 batches at a time because I guarantee your family will gobble up this gluten free apple bread. It’s so yummy – we eat it for breakfast, snack and I’ll often pack in my kids’ school lunches.

How to Make this Gluten-Free Apple Bread – Step by Step

1. Pre-heat oven to 350°F/180°C degrees.

2. Mix all dry ingredients together.

3. Beat eggs together and then add to the dry ingredients.

4. Add all other wet ingredients and mix until sticky. Don’t over mix.

5. Bake for 70 min in a regular loaf pan. Remove from the oven and let cool for about 20 minutes before slicing.

You’ll Love This Gluten Free Apple Bread Recipe

This moist and fluffy bread is jammed full of juicy apples made fragrant with warming cinnamon, and sweetened with a refined sugar free salted caramel. It’s also super easy to make, there’s no kneading or proving required.

This bread is great for breakfast, brunch, afternoon tea, a snack or dessert. It’s perfect for sharing with a crowd, and is great for Thanksgiving, Christmas and other holidays!

What Are the Best Apples for This Apple Bread Recipe?

The best apple to use when making apple bread is one with a balance of sweet and tart flavors that won’t break down in the baking process. Granny Smith apples are a great go-to as they embody both these traits, as well as Piñata apples, which can withstand the heat in the kitchen. You could also go for McIntosh, Pink Lady, or Braeburn.

What is The Best Way To Store Apples?

Apples are best stored in the refrigerator where they will keep for up to six weeks. Store them in a breathable bag in the low-humidity drawer of your refrigerator. Do not wash them until you are ready to use them. Apples that have been bruised will cause others to brown, so remove them from others. They will ripen at least six times faster when kept at room temperature.

How To Store This Gluten Free Apple Bread

This Apple Bread keeps covered in the fridge for around 3 days. Make sure to wait until it has cooled down completely before packing away to store, otherwise the trapped moisture in the bread will condense and it will become soggy. It’s delicious reheated in the toaster.

Top Tips for Making This Apple Bread Recipe

  • Try making this into muffin cases for individual portions
  • Line the tin with greased baking paper to make the bread easier to remove
  •  Make sure to leave a little gap around the edges so that the apples don’t spill out of the bread
  • This bread freezes well once completely cooled
  • Try adding some raisins or berries
  • Cook the bread until it is all of the way done.  You will want to err on the side of overdone instead of underdone
  • You’ll know this is done when a wooden skewer or long toothpick inserted into the baked loaf comes out with moist crumbs only, no wet batter
  • Leave to cool completely on a cooling rack before slicing
  • Great on it’s own but you can certainly slather a slice with butter, margarine or apple butter – so good

  1. 4 stars
Super tasty! I subbed flax eggs for the eggs, did 1/2 the coconut as avocado oil to reduce saturated fat and instead of 1 cup coconut sugar I did 1/3 cup coconut sugar and 1/3 cup monk fruit/erythritol blend.

Also used 1/2 the salt and would drop that even further to 1/4 tsp as the salt taste was a bit strong.

We used wild apples for extra tangy pop and the flavour of them turned out great!

We did them as muffins/mini muffins to reduce cook time because we were so excited to eat them!

Super pleased with the result, thanks for sharing this!

  2. Hi –

At the top of the recipe, it says there’s an option to go sugar-free, but I don’t see that option anywhere else. Am I missing it?

    Thanks-
    Bonney
