Halloween gives me a little anxiety, and it has nothing to do with the costumes or scary decor. Rather it’s the Halloween candy – which is usually laden with high fructose corn syrup and artificial dyes. Healthy Home Magazine just published an article about the Top 5 Scariest Things About Halloween Candy.
Did you read it? Scary, right?
I hate to admit that there have been times when I just let them eat the crap candy knowing that it’s just one night of the year – since I usually dump all the candy with artificial dyes and sugar the next day.
But now I think I’ve got the perfect alternative: CLIF Kid Zbar Full Moon Brownie. This Halloween-inspired Zbar (check out the adorable wrapper) is USDA-certified organic and contains no high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, trans fats, artificial flavors, colors or preservatives.
Can I hear an AMEN?!
CLIF Kid Zbar Full Moon Brownie combines a chewy chocolate brownie with white chocolate chips in a snack bar made with USDA-certified organic ingredients. Plus, each bar provides 8-11 grams of whole grains and 12 vitamins and minerals designed for kids’ growing bodies.
My kids tried CLIF Kid Zbar Full Moon Brownie bars and absolutely loved it. I think I’ll have a box on hand at Halloween and once my kids are done trick-or-treating we’ll go through their candy, and I’ll offer swaps of crap candy for CLIF Kid Zbars.
CLIF Kid, you need to come out with smaller sizes so I can give out more nutritious snacks for trick-or-treaters who ring my door.
Until then, parents can find healthier alternatives for kids and trick-or-treaters at The Natural Candy Store.

Sometimes I give out goldfish crackers or animal crackers as an alternative to candy. These bars sound yummy, too.

Goldfish crackers are a great alternative. Thanks for the suggestion.
What a great alternative! Last year was our son’s 1st trick or treating adventure. We didn’t let him eat his haul (I brought it to the office for my co-workers to enjoy). I did let him have an organic lollipop: no chemical colors, artificial flavors, or high fructose corn syrup. We’ll have to try the CLIF Kid Zbar!

Your little guy may notice this year – my kids do. So I’m swapping them candy for money (so they can buy Legos) or for healthier treats.
I think you’re right…he WILL notice this year. Time to get creative. I like your ideas!
