Kid-Friendly Lunch Ideas & Earth’s Best Organic Giveaway

I cannot believe we’re in the last two weeks of summer. It’s just flown by so fast. We’re getting reach for going back to school with new clothes, new haircuts and new lunch boxes. My kids absolutely love picking their new lunch boxes at the store, usually in some cartoon character that they love – last year it was Star Wars for my oldest and Cars for my younger son.

As we gear up for going back to school, I’m already starting to think about what I’m going to pack. We always opt for healthy food, especially protein to keep my kids’ energy level up. And their school is pretty strict on what they can bring for lunches, which I LOVE. No candy, juice boxes, cookies, or anything that has a lot of sugar in it.

Here are some healthy choices that are my kids’ favorites:

  • Sandwiches – we usually either do plain, nitrate-free turkey, peanut butter and fresh jam, or scrambled egg with cheese. I’ve tried other combinations but these are our go-to sandwiches
  • Cheese, nitrate-free turkey, and multigrain crackers
  • Fresh fruit – we like to do grapes, oranges, tangerines, cantaloupe, fresh berries or cut-up apples with a bit of lemon squeeze on it to prevent it from browning
  • Fresh vegetables – my kids love carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes or celery

I try to make sure they get one serving of vegetable, fruit, grains and protein. And then, of course, I give them a snack because they are kids after all. But I still opt for healthier snacks like pretzels, raw nuts, low-sugar granola bars, no-sugar fruit leather and sometimes I’ll even pack a small bag of plain potato chips.

My kids also enjoy eating these healthy snacks from Earth’s Best Organic.

Sunny Days Snack Bars with just 70 calories and 8 grams of sugar. They’re made with organic ingredients – no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. Plus, it’s got calcium, iron, zinc and six B vitamins

My kids also love applesauce. I usually try to make mine homemade but sometimes I’m in just a rush to get them to school and lunches packed so I’ll give them each one of these.

Earth’s Best Organic Applesauce with just 50 calories and 10 grams of sugar (no added sugar, it’s just the sugar from the apples). It’s packed with Vitamin C and USDA organic – no growth hormones, antibiotics, steroids or potentially harmful pesticides or herbicides
