I gave my 6 year old son a small bowl of rice for his dinner and he gobbled it up. I offered one to my 4 year old son, and he shook his head. He never wants to eat rice. He’s like that with other Asian food too – like dumplings, stir-fried vegetables, and Chinese noodles.
Me: You are not Chinese.
My 4 year old: Yes, I am! I am Chinese!
Me: No, a Chinese person would eat their rice.
My 4 year old: Okay, give me a little bit.
Me: See, tastes good right. (As he eats it). You know, you eat Mexican rice at Rubio’s (awesome Mexican restaurant in San Diego) all the time.
My 4 year old: Oh, I’m Mexican then.
This poor child is going to have an identity crisis. Since he doesn’t look Asian at all, he has a hard time convincing others. He told some Asian kids in his preschool that he was part Chinese and they didn’t believe him. They called him a liar. I told him to introduce me to them so they can see for themselves. But it looks like he’s renounced being Chinese for being Mexican instead.

His taste buds will come around eventually surely. In the mean time tell him the noodles are Mexican spaghetti. lol
Bwahahaha! Hilarious! My son is half-filipino, but we don’t seem to have that problem with him and rice. Onions, on the otherhand, different story… Hmmm… There is no real point to this comment…
